Funding and Budget
This study will be an interdisciplinary team effort that will involve scientists at several institutions and organizations. This study will provide $250,000 to the Southern Center for Sustainable Forests, which in turn will provide funds to the two cooperating institutions of North Carolina State University and Duke University. The funds designated for Duke University will focus on the ecologic assessment, and be administered by Daniel Richter. The funds provided to NCSU will focus mostly on the economic components of the study, and be administered by Fred Cubbage. Each institution will receive $125,000, and Cubbage and Richter will cooperate to ensure that adequate funds are available to fund the relevant components of the study as required. NCSU and Duke will cooperate throughout the study, and both economists and ecologists from both institutions, and other organizations, will participate in the study. If funds for different scientists need to be adjusted, this can be done through subcontracts at either institution.
Funds for this research will provide for faculty, graduate students, travel, operating, supplies, and overhead. The current estimate of these costs will be submitted separately by each institution. This surely will need to be adjusted as the study proceeds.
